WOG interview with Tarannis M. Lead Singer and the NU:N Black Genesis Records Portuguese Gothic Rock Band.

1. What was it that got you into the goth subculture and music from the start?

93'

Sun in Aquarius 20°56' Gemini Rising 2°46

Before start I would like to thank WGM for the invitation to this interview and the interest for our band

To tell you the truth, I don't remember very well of my initiatic path into the Gothic subculture, as well my bandmates. It was very long ago. I've always had a great interest for the occult since very young age. The supernatural existence of a world apart from our trivial day lives it's something that has fascinated me since ever. Romantic and decadent literature, the absence of color, night life, and everything related to the wild side of life (though intellectualized) is a common interest inside the core members of NU:N's trinity. Each one of us began by discovering songs that describe these ambiences, in which we identified ourselves and decided to follow through all our life.

2. What is the meaning behind the name NU:N or Nothing Unveils Nothing?

We took it from ancient Egypt mythology. According to the myth, Nun was the waters of chaos and was the only thing existed on earth before there was land. Nun (Nu) was one of the oldest Egyptian gods in ancient Egyptian history referred as the “father of the god”. It means “primeval waters” from which the creation was began. Nun has no gender, but has the aspect that can represent as male or female. We didn't want people to think that our name was about Christian nuns, so we decided to add a colon mark before the last N. Although it is pronounced the same way, its meaning is completely different For the record, Nothing Unveils Nothing was only the the name of our debut album.

3. How did you come to meet?

We already knew each other before forming the band. The alternative society in which we move its relatively small. We already had other bands before NU:N, though each with their own. The idea of making music together came out in one of our night-talk

4. Briefly describe everyone's role in the band?

Well, everyone has an important role in the band. We discuss all our ideas in a good democratic way. Pedro Eternal do some guitar riffs at home and so do I. Francisco Vaudeville does some bass lines at is place too. Then we met together at Vulcanalia and we start too draw the songs. Later I do some synths and guitar overdubs. What becomes to lyrics, I'm the writer, although Vaudeville made his debut as a writer on our latest album with the song 'green hour glides'. And Eternal will start to write very soon too.

5. Where do you draw inspiration from in performace?

We are inspired by the musical trance we created, as well as the lyrics mood. We suck the energy from the audiences in a shamanic kind of ecstasy. If the energy is pure and good, it's certain that we will perform as Gods, if it's not, we will rather stay at home and wait for better days to come. ,

6.Who are your biggest influences?

Well we have plenty of influences, but who doesn't!?Lot's of them were answered in the first question. Well, David Bowie, The Doors and Leonard Cohen are a common major influence to the the 3 of us, and that, I can tell you for sure.

7.What is the goth culture like in Portugal? How is it different?

Goth scene in Portugal is the same as any country in europe and maybe as in the whole planet. If it wasn't we would start another goth subgenre or a trend that has nothing to do with goth on the first place It's a small underground society that meet at goth clubs and post punk gigs. Our goth movement it's ok for the small country we have. Well, we can't compare it with big Countries as the U.S.A or Canada.

8.What is your favorite NU:N song if you can only pick 1?

That's a very hard question to answer. I can't tell you one favourite song from NU:N, I love all of them. 'Scorpio rising' not for being my favourite, but because of it's real tragic background, not that all our songs are about fake feelings, they are all true happenings in my life, adorned with metaphores.

9.What can we expect from NU:N in the year to come and on? Any comments or announcements events about NU:N etc?

More music, maybe some covers! Well, we hope to promote Naked Until Noema playing live gigs as much as we can. We love to make records but playing live it's our perfect environment. We don't have too many concerts scheduled for now, so if someone want us to play in a venue near, just contact us by www.facebook.com/nothingunveilsnothing or nothingunveilsnothing@gmail.com

10.Will you ever tour in the U.S.?

Of course yes! if we have the chance and some good promoters, but we know it's not easy. Like I've said before, if you want to see us live in a venue next to you, contact us.

P.S

Once again I want to say thanks to WGM for his interest for the band.

Fraternally yours

Tarannis M.

Few bands have accomplished the feat of stepping into the mythical Gothic Rock genre on a more profound and consistent basis than NU:N. With the release of their acclaimed 2014 debut album “nothing unveils nothing”, their music has touched the minds and souls of Gothic Rock fans seeking contact with something beyond the physical world, something mystical, something ethereal, something obscure, that transcends time, space and even perception. After having a productive 2015 recording new material included on compilations, digital singles and performing live in charismatic European festivals and venues, the band began working on this new material as far back as April 2016, and on July 2016 have returned to Vulcanalia Studio to record their second album named “naked until noema”. Spending July – September 2016 recording, mixing, mastering and designing the artwork in this studio among its inspiring surroundings, the result is nothing short of a powerful and intriguing record that will add a new layer to the band’s career. “naked until noema” is extremely diverse, both torturous and melodically transcendent. The Portuguese trio emerges in a new journey of sound and writting exploration bringing them closer to themselves. The result is diverse ambiences, vast landscapes that incorporate elements of pure Gothic Rock, industrial, circus and arabic melodies, tracks that will for sure take the dancefloor by storm. With 11 songs, lasting 56:26 minutes, “naked until noema” features a harsher, harrowing but melodic and darker harmony than NU:N had recorded before. Special guest collaborations: • José Luis Peixoto, the acclaimed Portuguese novelist and poet, wrote the lyrics to “súplica”. • Oliver Heuer, from Sweet William (German Gothic Rock band) featured as guest vocals and lyrics writer on “remember me”. • Carfax Haddo from Last Dusk (Costa Rica Gothic Rock band) featured as guest vocals on “aethyr”; • Stephanie Sabat from Last Dusk, featured as guest vocals and lyrics writer on “untitled”. The “naked until noema” album was released on October 31st, on CD and digital format, with a live performance at gothic underground club Heaven´s Bell, Porto, Portugal, including a special set introducing the new album plus songs from their debut work. The band has released previously a digital EP with the singles entitled “Ceremonial” and “Carved Silence” on bandcamp, as a preview to the new album. TRACKLISTING 1 – aethyr 2 – ceremonial 3 – seeds of absence 4 – untitled 5 – romeo without juliet 6 – súplica 7 – incessant lies 8 – hidden praise 9 – remember me 10 – carved silence 11 – green hour glides.
